GRAND HAVEN, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – The search continued into Sunday for five men allegedly involved in an attempted abduction of a 17-year-old girl south of Grand Haven State Park.
The unnamed victim told Grand Haven Public Safety detectives that she was walking in the area of Prospect Street east of Harbor Drive around 3:40 PM on Saturday when a silver, four-door vehicle pulled up. The men inside asked her to come inside the car, but she refused.
The victim then claimed that one of the men got out of the vehicle, came up to her and grabbed and groped her. She was able to escape his clutches and fled the scene, while the suspects drove off without further incident. The victim was shaken but unhurt.
Public Safety authorities say that the vehicle, which may possibly be a Chevrolet, had a dent in the driver’s side front fender. As for the suspects, one was described as in his 20’s with a well-groomed beard and mustache, sitting behind the driver, and wearing a blue shirt with grey or khaki shorts. Another was a man in his 20’s with brown hair, long sideburns, a muscular build, sitting behind the front-seat passenger, with salmon colored swim trunks and sandals without a shirt.
The incident occurred on the final full day of activities at the Coast Guard Festival. Anyone with any information on the matter is asked to call the Grand Haven Department of Public Safety or Silent Observer.
