ZEELAND, MI (92 7 WHTC, Nov. 2, 2026) – Two matters involving the proposed expansion of Mead Johnson’s Reckett complex highlight Monday night’s biweekly Zeeland City Council meeting.
Public hearings are slated ahead of votes on establishing an Industrial Development District and an Industrial Facilities Exemption Certificate for the site off of East Main and Fairview avenues. Over the past couple of years, Mead Johnson acquired a number of properties adjacent to its long-standing baby formula manufacturing facility in order to construct about 619,000 square feet of new industrial buildings, in several phases, over a multiple-year period.
Council members will also be asked to decide on a proposed $78,000 contract with the MCSA Group to facilitate the design and administration of a planned reconstruction of Lawrence Park. This is the final step towards the bidding out of the actual work next spring.
During the 6 PM Work Study Session ahead of the 7 PM meeting, the governing panel will be updated on the search for a new City Manager, as well as the five-year master plan for the parks and recreation department, and on the city’s financial sustainability for the current Fiscal Year. Members will also be going into a closed session to discuss an opinion by City Attorney Jim Donkersloot.
The Zeeland City Council meets in Chambers at Zeeland City Hall (21 S. Elm St.). An online link to the agenda and supporting documents is here.
