HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — Holland Charter Township’s board of trustees is set to meet at 7 p.m. today, Thursday, Aug. 20, 2020, via conference call. Dial toll-free, (844) 474-0925, and use access code 90828416.
Among the agenda items, trustees consider temporary authorization to operate a farm market at 461 Chicago Drive. Vissers Farms had started the stand without permission in late March until someone complained to the township because township rules limit farm stands to farm properties. Visser continued operating the farm, despite being told to shut it down, until May 18, after which the Visser farm operators asked the township to consider changing the ordinance so they can resume operations. Ottawa County Commissions wrote a letter of support, saying the pandemic has hindered farm sales to area restaurants but could help people get fresh local food in a way that may be healthier than going into a big-box store. Township staff had suggested denying Visser’s quest to change the rules, but the planning commission referred the matter to township trustees, citing the legal complications.
