HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — The National Weather Service has issued a beach hazards statement, set to start at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 18, 2020, for Ottawa, Allegan, and Van Buren counties.
Wind will create high wave action, strong currents, and dangerous swimming conditions.
Waves are expected to reach 3 to 5 feet, peaking at sunset. Piers will be heavily swamped by waves.
Strong currents can pull swimmers into deeper water and high waves can sweep people off piers.
The north sides of north piers will be dangerous places to swim, including at Holland State Park and North Beach in South Haven.
Beach goers should stay out of the water to avoid hazardous swimming conditions.
