WEST OLIVE, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – A part of the Lakeshore’s history is honored today.
The Olive Township Historical Society is holding “An Old Fashion Ice Cream Social” at the Ottawa School, and as the Society’s Kit Karsten explains, it’s more than just a 150th birthday party for the structure off of Stanton Street east of 120th Avenue. “We took an old chalkboard and had it cut up into 12″ by 18″ pieces, so you can have a piece of the original chalkboard to remember your grandfather’s days in school,” he explained in a recent appearance on “WHTC Talk of the Town.” “We also have a book that was written by the lady who deeded the school to us, Wanda Hepler, who just passed away about a month ago, and we also have a replica of the school house that has a little history on the back that are available as fundraisers for us.”
The festivities run from 12 Noon to 3 PM, and more information is available at the Olive Township Historical Society’s Facebook page.
