TALLMADGE TWP, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – An 26-year-old intoxicated pedestrian from Grand Rapids is in good condition after being struck Wednesday evening in Tallmadge Township.
Ottawa County Deputies were called to the scene at Lake Michigan Drive and 1st Avenue around 9:46 p.m. Sgt. Jay Douglas says the intoxicated pedestrian was not in a designated crosswalk when he attempted to run cross all five lanes of Lake Michigan Drive.
62-year-old Judith Bradley of Grand Rapids was westbound on Lake Michigan Drive in a 2015 Ford Escape when she observed the pedestrian struggling into her lane from the turn lane. The pedestrian struck the side of Bradley’s vehicle and she in turn swerved into the right-hand lane. Bradley was then struck from behind by 26-year-old Tyler Feys-Volmering of Grand Rapids who was driving an 2007 Audi A4.
Both vehicles stopped and called 911 to report the incident. The pedestrian fled the scene and was located about a half mile away by officers from the Walker Police Department. The pedestrian whose name has not been released, was highly intoxicated was not cooperative with authorities. He was treated at the scene before being transported to Spectrum Butterworth Hospital for minor injuries by Life EMS.
The two drivers were not injured in the crash and alcohol use by the drivers is not a factor in the crash which remains under investigation.
