HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – A person is in custody after a standoff with police from the Holland Department of Public Safety (HDPS).
The standoff lasted more than four hours after authorities responded to a felonious assault with a gun at 15 West 22nd Street near Central Avenue around 3:40 p.m. Sunday afternoon, August 7. The suspect took off on foot to the home after a Holland public safety officer tried to pull over the suspect’s vehicle.
Holland resident Elaine Page lives near where it happened and watched the scene unfold.
“At one point in time they had a Hummer out and you know the SWAT team member with the bull horn announcing for the suspect to come out with their arms up and then they sent the team into the home. It was kind of scary because you watch the National news and stuff like that doesn’tt happen in our little town. You always think the worst and I’m really happy the Holland Police force kept everyone safe.”
After several hours, the suspect was taken into custody from the attic of the house.
The suspect was transported to Holland Hospital for non-life threatening injuries and then taken into police custody.Authorities left the scene around 8:30 Sunday evening.
*Update* The suspect was arrested for several charges, including those related to the assault with a weapon, Fleeing and Eluding, and Operating While Intoxicated.
HDPS is now saying the suspect is a 22-year-old male from Holland.
