HOLLAND (WTHC-AM/FM) — Ottawa Area ISD (OAISD) Board of Education members agreed at an Aug. 12, 2020, meeting to hire the Michigan Association of School Boards (MASB) to help search for the next OAISD superintendent, replacing the retiring Pete Haines.
The process starts with hearing from local school personnel, parents, business and community leaders, and anyone else interested regarding the background, skills and abilities the next leader of OAISD should possess.
People can participate in an anonymous, online survey at: https://forms.gle/JFe9bMymKufErR5UA. This survey should take around 10 minutes to complete and closes at 4 p.m. on Sept. 5, 2020.
People can also directly share their thoughts and ideas with consultant Mark Dobias, Michigan Association of School Boards, by calling (269) 532-0543 or emailing mrdobias@gmail.com.
“The Board of Education recognizes that OAISD has been fortunate to have outstanding leadership since its inception, and it is our desire to continue that legacy in the selection of our next leader,” OAISD Board of Education President Carol Slagh said. “Community members can help us accomplish this goal. Their input is valuable to us and will help set a foundation and direction for the search process.”
An internal application process will begin mid-September. If the right candidate isn’t identified at that time, an application process for external candidates will open in mid- to late October, according to district officials.
