ALLEGAN, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Nov. 7, 2025) – The traditional role of a county sheriff is, to many, just operate the county jail. However, just housing the accused and convicted is not enough.
That’s the premise of the Community Reentry Program run by the Allegan County Sheriff’s Office. This 10-week-long, five-day-a-week, faith-based effort seeks to give those behind bars an opportunity to turn their lives around by developing life skills for when they are released from incarceration.
The Reverend Sarah Montgomery of Reach the Forgotten Ministries is joined by retiring Sheriff’s Sergeant John Sexton in heading up this program, with its 44th graduation ceremony held at the Allegan County Jail on Thursday.
The Community Reentry Program is one of several offered by the Allegan County Sheriff’s Office Corrections Center and Office of Community Corrections for those behind bars.
