HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Sept. 5, 2024) – A new school year is underway, and the Holland Board of Education is back to full strength.
On Tuesday, the district announced that Martin Veliz will complete the nearly two years left on the term of trustee Linda Falstad, who retired last month. Feliz, a graduate of Holland High and parent of a current Dutch student, beat out Maris von Websky and Kathryn Schoon-Tanis in public interviews last week for the position. He is a business client manager with Huntington National Bank in Holland, and Veliz is currently the president of the Board with Latin Americans United for Progress, along with being on the board of the South Shore Village Business Improvement District.
Falstad, a one-time Holland City Council member, stepped down after eight years on the school board on August 8th in order to spend more time with her grandchildren.
The seat will be up for election in November of 2026.
