GRAND HAVEN, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – A perfect West Michigan summer afternoon welcomed the parade of ships at the Grand Haven Coast Guard Festival.
Five ships are now open for tours. The U.S. Coast Guard Cutters Bristol Bay, Biscayne Bay, Alder, and Mackinaw arrived on Monday, August 1, along with the Canadian Coast Guard Ship Carriere. That’s three more ships than last year.
Coast Guard Festival director Michael Smith says Grand Haven is ready for big crowds all week for the annual event.
“When you have a beautiful resort town with a gorgeous river that leads to a lake, you know the rest of the story. People want to be here.”
Free ship tours are being offered every day through Saturday from 1-3 p.m. and in the evening from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday is Kid’s day with all sorts of family activities.
