Newaygo, MI (WHTC- AM/FM) – A Newaygo boy is in the hospital after being attacked by two dogs on Tuesday.
12-year-old Devin Bates was riding his bike on East 96th St. in Newago when he was mauled by two dogs, multiple news outlets are reporting. The dogs had broken off their cables from a nearby home.
Devin’s mother, Rose, was informed of the attack by a concerned passerby and when she found her son, he had bite marks all over his body and was covered in blood.
It is being reported that Devin has underwent two five-hour surgeries since the attack- one to fix the cosmetic damage to his head and neck and the other to repair a major artery in his leg.
The two dogs are both St. Bernard and Lab mixes and are being held at a local animal shelter. The Newaygo Police say that the dogs will be held for 10 days for rabies checks, but the owners will not get the animals back.
No word on whether the owners will receive any criminal charges for the incident.
