LANSING, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – A Holland woman has been selected as a finalist for the 2017 Governor’s Energy Excellence Awards.
Sandra Kiernan of Holland has been nominated in the Best Projects-Residential Category for her efforts in making her home more energy efficient. Kiernan along with twenty-three businesses, organizations, and individuals from across the state are being recognized for taken firm, meaningful actions to improve energy efficiency.
In a press release sent to WHTC News, Kiernan used all the resources she could to make her home more energy efficient by purchasing an energy efficient refrigerator, air conditioning unit, a New Energy Star direct Vent water heater, window replacement and insulation for her attic. All the work was done in the Fall of 2016. She saved over $300.00 in natural gas as well as her electricity bill. Kiernan made many changes to her lifestyle and home having entered the Holland Energy Prize:Biggest Loser Challenge.
Nominations were made in eight different categories, which demonstrate the diverse nature of energy-efficiency deployment. The Holland Energy Fund has been nominated for the Innovator of the Year category.

The award winners will be announced at an event in mid-October.
