GEORGETOWN TWP, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – A three-year-old Jenison girl is in stable condition after the burley she was riding in on the back of her Mother’s bicycle was hit by a car.
Ottawa County Sheriff Deputies were called to the scene at Thomas and Baldwin in Georgetown Township on Thursday evening around 9: 21 p.m. Sgt. Matt Wilfong says 31-year-old Stephanie Wright of Jenison was stopped on Thomas waiting for traffic to clear so she could turn right to head east on Baldwin Street.
Christina Navitskas of Jenison was riding her bicycle westbound on the sidewalk on the south side of Baldwin and had stopped at the intersection. The 28-year-old’s daughter Layla was riding on the back of the bicycle in a burley. She thought that the driver could see her and proceeded through the intersection.
When Navitskas’ bicycle was in front of the car, traffic had cleared for the car to turn and it started to roll forward and hit the burley carrying the child.
Both Christina and her daughter Layla were transported by Life EMS to an area hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the vehicle was not injured.
