ZEELAND TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – A 62-year-old Zeeland area man lost his life in a mowing accident on Thursday evening.
According to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Sergeant Christopher Dill, first responders were dispatched to the area of 78th Avenue near Sunset View north of Drenthe just before 7:30 PM. They found Steven Hulst pinned underneath an overturned lawn tractor in a six foot-deep ditch along the roadside. Rescuers moved the machine off of the victim, but he was pronounced dead at the scene by the Ottawa County Medical Examiner’s Office.
Investigators believe at this point that Mr. Hulst had been mowing the grass on his property when the tractor dropped into the ditch and flipped over on top of him.
The incident remains under investigation.
