HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Sept. 2, 2026) – Another step in the process of building a municipal recreation center for the City of Holland could be taken on Wednesday evening.
City Council members will be asked to approve a nearly $1.1 million contract with NexGen to conduct site preparation this fall for the project, which would be adjacent to Smallenberg Park off of Fairbanks Avenue near East 16th Street. The city wants to build an 86,000 square-foot structure, which would bring most of the municipal recreation department’s operations into one location.
This agreement would deal with getting the land in shape to support the building, and NexGen would be working in conjunction with overall general contractor Lakewood Construction. Last month, council approved issuing up to $22 million in bonds for the overall project, with the hope that construction could begin in November.
