HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, May 5, 2025) – With two exceptions, school issues will be before voters along the Lakeshore on Tuesday.
All of Ottawa County, as well as voters living in the Hamilton Community and Saugatuck school districts, will be asked to approve a renewal and increase for the Ottawa Area Intermediate School District to provide special education programs as prescribed by state law. The OAISD is asking for a half-mill increase over an 18-year span to bring this levy to 1.94 mills.
Four school districts are asking for bond approvals to make improvements in infrastructure, programs and buildings – Allendale at $88.1 million over 17 years, Fruitport at $82 million over 30 years, Otsego at $46.5 million over 15 years, and Delton Kellogg at $43 million over 19 years. Districts seeking rewewal of the 18 mill non-homestead levy include Holland, West Ottawa, Zeeland, Grand Haven, Spring Lake, Sparta and Caledonia.
Two municipalities are seeking millage proposal approval. Port Sheldon Township is looking at a .55 mill hike over seven years for fire department operations, while Grand Haven Township is seeking a quarter of a mill over four years for its Four Points Center for Successful Aging.
