FENNVILLE, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, July 2, 2024) – A sewer main break has triggered a no-body contact advisory in the Fennville area.
On Monday afternoon, the Allegan County Health Department issued this advisory for those near the Fennville-Billings Drain. The break occurred around 12 PM near the intersection of Main and Maple streets in the city of Fennville, and affects those along the drain line that runs from south of the city to 124th Avenue (M-89).
An unknown amount of sewage was diverted into the drain as a result of the break, and contact with the water there right now could cause severe bloody diarrhea and abdominal cramps, along with possible kidney failure in some cases. The advisory for humans and pets will remain in effect until the break is repaired and water samples show that E.coli levels are back below maximum safe standards.
