LANSING, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Dec. 14, 2024) – At lease two local entities will share in $75 million from Lansing to expand learning opportunities beyond the classroom for Michigan students.
Grand Valley State University is in line for over $582 thousand, while the Outdoor Discovery Center Network is getting $522 grand, in Out-of-School Time Grants. They were among 177 organizations statewide that earned these funds in a competitive application process that saw 338 entities seeking a total of $122 million in funding requests from the Michigan Department of Lifelong Education, Advancement and Potential. Officials say that the funds will help enrich before-school, after-school, and summer programming initiatives.
Other local entities who will also receive MiLEAP money through this program include GVSU’s TRIO Upward Bound and Hope College’s CASA and Step Up. The department was created by Governor Whitmer last year.
