Richard (Dick) D. Housenga, age 83 passed away on Tuesday, February 13, 2024.
Dick was born in Fulton, Illinois on January 28, 1941. He graduated from Holland High School and married Sharon (Tyink) Housenga. He went on to the Michigan State Police Academy. He served in Jackson, Romeo, Battle Creek, Houghton Lake, and then reached his career goal of becoming the Lieutenant at the Grand Haven post. After 29 years he retired and went on to become an investigator with the Ottawa County Friend of the Court where he could quietly integrate his faith with those he worked with.
Dick enjoyed motorcycle trips, camping and time with his family. He will always be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, and especially for telling everyone “You’re awesome!”
He is survived by his wife, Sherrie Housenga; son, Todd and Peg Housenga; son, Troy and Shelly Housenga; daughter, Tracy and Jeff Jansma; grandchildren, Brooke and Taylor Walburg, Whitney and Aaron Buck, Logan and Jaiden Housenga, Alec (Megan) Housenga, Dillon Housenga, Maddy Housenga, Tyler (Mike) Jansma, Lauren Jansma, Trevor (Sydney) Jansma, Drew Jansma; great-grandchildren, Elwood, Judah, Jackson; sister, Toots and Warren Drooger, and sisters-in-law, Pauly Housenga, Marcia Oakes, Lyn and Don Becksford, and Carol and Dave Rabbers.
Visitation with the family is 4:00-6:00 pm on Friday, February 23, 2024, at Langeland Sterenberg Funeral Home, 315 E. 16th St. Holland, MI 49423.
Memorial services are at 11:00 am on Saturday, February 24, 2024, also at Langeland Sterenberg Funeral Home with Pastor Justin Smith officiating.
Burial to take place in Restlawn Cemetery.
