LAKETOWN TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Jan. 13, 2024) – Pay raises are on tap for some leaders in a Lakeshore community.
During its monthly meeting last Wednesday, the Laketown Township Board of Trustees unanimously approved three-percent pay raises for each of its members, as well as awarding a $10,000 hike for the township clerk.
In 2024, the two general trustees – Patrick Dietrich and Jim Delaney – will each earn $5,150 annually, while Supervisor Linda Howell and Treasurer Jim Johnson will each garner just under $17,000. Clerk Amber Davis gets the biggest hike to just below $27,000, due mostly to increased responsibility stemming from the 2022 passage of early voting in Michigan by state electors.
Unlike Ottawa County, where four centers will handle those early voting responsibilities for the first time in the February 27th Presidential Preference Primary, communities in Allegan County will handle those chores individually or in small groups. In Laketown Township, early in-person voting for this election will be from 8 AM to 4 PM daily from February 17th through February 25th at the Township Hall (4338 Beeline Rd.).
Also during this past Wednesday’s meeting, the board tabbed Tom Hoekman to fill a vacancy in the township’s Parks and Recreation Commission panel; approved poverty exemptions guidelines for property taxes, and tabled a revised open burning ordinance pending further public comment on the matter.
