LANSING, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Jan. 8, 2024) – Cash was flowing out of Lansing towards the Lakeshore on Monday.
The Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity’s Office of Rural Prosperity doled out $852,000 to support 19 different projects statewide through the Rural Rediness Grant Program. Among the efforts securing these competitive funds were: Michigan State University’s Center for Community and Economic Development, getting $50,000 for a pilot model/scaled fellowship addressing economic resiliency in five counties, including Allegan; and Beautify Pullman, getting over $40,000 for non-motorized planning and pedestrian safety improvements for that southwest Allegan County community.
The state LEO office also announced $14.4 million in Barrier Removal and Employment Success Expansion Grants to 27 entities statewide. Among the non-profit organizations securing these one-time funds were: 70×7 Life Recovery, getting over $422,000 for efforts in Ottawa and Kent counties; the Outdoor Discovery Center Network, getting a million dollars for its efforts in Allegan and Ottawa counties; and West Michigan Works, also getting a million dollars spread over several West Michigan counties.
