Point guard Jada Garner and center Gabe Quillan swept Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Player of the Week honors on Monday.
Garner (Midland, Michigan / H.H. Dow HS) is the MIAA Women’s Basketball Athlete of the Week for the second time this season and the second time in her career.
Quillan (Ada, Michigan / Grand Rapids Catholic Central) is the MIAA Men’s Basketball Athlete of the Week for the second time this season and the third time in his career.
Garner fueled the Flying Dutch’s 75-74 home victory against Trine University on Saturday that propelled Hope into sole possession of first place in the MIAA standings.
The 5-6 junior scored a career-high 20 points on 62.5% field-goal shooting against the Thunder while also collecting three rebounds, one steal and one assist.
The exercise science major made all nine free-throw attempts, including two in the closing seconds to seal the victory.
Quillan averaged a double-double while leading the Flying Dutchmen to road victories last week at Olivet College by a 72-67 margin and at Alma College by a 72-63 score.
The 6-9 junior totaled a team-high 16 points, a season-high 16 rebounds, one assist and one steal against Olivet.
The business major contributed a game-high 20 points, 13 rebounds, three blocks and three assists against Alma.
