ALLEGAN, MI (92 7 WHTC, Nov. 7, 2026) – The rut is in full swing across Michigan right now.
Hunters have been going after deer with the bow and arrow since October 1st, with firearm season set for November 15th. While they are using conventional weapons to get their prey, others have been unwitting hunters due to their vehicles colliding with these animals, according to Allegan County Sheriff’s Deputy Jim Kimber of the office’s Animal Control unit.
Traffic safety experts cite the “don’t veer for deer” mantra for motorists, saying that driving through a collision is better than swerving to avoid a crash, which could lead to losing control of the vehicle and a more serious long-term impact.
