Jim was a member of Pillar Church. Known as a hard, dedicated, dependable worker, he served in the Army from 1967 – 1971, and drove for UPS Muskegon for 32 years. Skilled with tools and fixing things, he enjoyed helping his family, friends, and the community with various projects. Using these skills, he also spent a lot of time building furniture, leaving behind many beautiful pieces with his family. He enjoyed working in his yard—vegetable gardening and caring for flowers. In this beautiful setting, he regularly hosted extended family and friends at his pool. This was also a space that attracted birds that he enjoyed watching. He enjoyed boating and all that entailed—time with family and friends, watersports, and the outdoors. He loved to travel, including trips to Mexico, the Caribbean, and across the Atlantic to Rome, Paris, and London, with his annual family trips to Florida being his favorite.
Jim is survived by his wife of 41 years, Laurel; children, Tracey (Jon) Hornbeck, Jason (Jen) Eichorst, Stephen (Wendy) De Wall, Kimberly (Aaron) Rubin, and Melissa (Jon) Tamminga; 13 grandchildren; siblings, Linda Allen and Robert (Mary) Woodward; in-laws, Sherrill (Russ) Palsrok, Elaine (Case) Vanderleest, Brian (Carol) Frens, Denise Volbeda, and Gayle (Craig) Bultsma; and several nieces and nephews.
