HOLLAND TWP., MI (WHTC, Oct. 28, 2026) – One person is in custody following what the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office is calling a “critical incident” at a Holland North Side residence on Wednesday afternoon.
Deputies were dispatched to the area of Ransom Street between US-31 and 120th Avenue, in the Drew’s Campground complex, around 3:20 PM. It was reported that multiple gunshots were fired from a person inside of a camper, with another person in the area apparently not struck by a bullet. It was reported that the targeted person was a construction worker doing repair work at the scene, and he was able to phone authorities.
Crisis negotiators were called in, along with assistance from the Holland Department of Public Safety and the Kent County Sheriff’s Office. US-31 was blocked off in both directions between New Holland and Quincy streets as a precaution. There were apparently no other persons in neighboring campers at the time of the incident.
After nearly three hours of negotiation, a person initially identified as simply an “adult male suspect” was safely taken into custody, and will remain in the Ottawa County Jail, pending the issuance of formal charges, and an arraignment in 58th District Court. Road blocks in the area were shortly removed afterwards.
Deputies say that there were no any injuries sustained during the incident, which remains under investigation.
