Kenneth Van Dam, 95, of Oakland, passed away at his home on Thursday, November 9, 2023, surrounded by his family.
Ken was born December 20, 1927, in Oakland, to Obbie and Catherine (Brandt) Van Dam. He graduated from Zeeland High School and started working in the family business. He owned the Oakland General Store for many years before its closing, leaving the transportation side of the business running as Van Dam Transport. Ken was a lifelong member of Oakland CRC where he served as an elder for several years. He married Lucille Ryzenga in Overisel CRC on January 15, 1948.
He was preceded in death by his parents, granddaughter Michelle Renee Van Dam, sisters: Caroline Van Dam, Angeline & Willis Essink, Wilma & John Van Den Bosch; brother Oscar Van Dam, in-laws: Gerald & Alice Ryzenga, Julius & Marian Ryzenga, Margaret & Marvin Geurink, Gordon & Verna Ryzenga, Edwin & Lorena Ryzenga, Ernest & Marilyn Ryzenga, Raymond Ryzenga, Donald Ryzenga.
He is survived by his wife of 75 years, their children: Larry and Pat Van Dam, Wanda Van Dam & Scott Green; grandchildren: Jeff & Linda Van Dam, Kelli & Audrey Stamm; great-grandchildren: Josh, Jordan, Joy, Isabel, Ben, Ian; great-great-grandson Max, sister-in-law Marjorie Ryzenga.
A funeral service will be held at 12:00 noon, Tuesday, November 14, 2023, at Oakland Christian Reformed Church, 4460 38th Ave., Hamilton MI 49419. Visiting hours are 5-8 pm, Sunday, at the Yntema Funeral Home, 251 S. State Street, Zeeland MI 49464. Visitation will also be 11:00-11:45 am, Tuesday prior to the funeral service at Oakland CRC. Interment will be in Overisel Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the ReFrame Ministries.
