Gene Owen Schra, age 87, of Holland, was welcomed into the Arms of Jesus on Friday, November 10, 2023.
Gene was a long-time member of Covenant Presbyterian Church (PCA). He proudly served our country in the US Army during the Korean War, after which, he practiced his craftsmanship in woodworking for 45 years at Baker Furniture. Gene’s skill and hard work was also seen in his love for farming and “working the soil.” He was a man of strong faith, and was dedicated to his family.
Gene is survived by his wife of 66 years, Marilyn; children: Gary (Connie) Schra, Linda (Mel) Vander Kooi, Donald (Judy) Schra; 10 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren (and twins on the way); brother, Robert Schra; siblings-in-law, Jan (Will) Hilbrands, Jim (Lori) Le Febre, and Louise Elenbaas.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Jake & Mabel (Boerman) Schra; siblings: Hester (Charlie) Volkers, Lois (Jim) Dykhuis, Myrtle (Ted) Dubbink, Mildred Zoerhof (Harris Nyboer, Glenn Rigterink, Howard Zoerhof); and brother-in-law, Joe Elenbaas.
A time of visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 14, 2023 at Covenant Presbyterian Church (PCA), 1015 East 32nd St, Holland. A funeral service, with Rev. Kenneth Klett officiating, will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 15, 2023, also at the church. The family will accept visitors from 10:00 a.m. -10:45 a.m. prior to the service on Wednesday. Burial will be in Bentheim Cemetery.
