Gary A. Horstmanshof died 11-7-2023 after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease and dementia. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Floreen Kay Essenberg with whom he had two sons: Dr. Douglas A. and Micheal J. Both are married to loving wives Tiffany and Stephanie respectively and together have five grandchildren: Sarah, David, Isabella, Andrew, and Zoe Horstmanshof. Gary is also survived by his two sisters: Diane with husband Randy Elve and Gayle with husband Richard Vorenkamp, his two sisters-in-law: Ruth Essenberg and Phila Essenberg, as well as many nephews, nieces, cousins, great-nephews, and great nieces.
Gary taught in Battle Creek public schools in the Special Education department at the Highschool level from the 1970’s to 2003. He was a beloved teacher and friend to his students.

Visitation will be 2-4 pm Monday, November 13, 2023, at Yntema Funeral Home, 251 South State Street, Zeeland, and from 9:30-10:45 am Tuesday, November 14, 2023, at First Byron Christian Reformed Church, 85641 Byron Center Ave, Byron Center, MI, with the funeral service to follow at 11 am. Interment will be in Borculo Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to the Parkinson’s Association of West Michigan or Faith Hospice. www.yntemafh.com
