Bertha Maat age 99, of Holland, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, November 4, 2023.
Bertha was born on the 4th of July, 1924 in Borculo to Edward and Minnie (Beyer) Vanden Heuvel. She worked for Chris Craft with other young girls whose husbands and boyfriends were gone for 3 years during WWII.
She married Floyd “Flip” Maat after he returned on August 9, 1946 at First Christian Reformed Church in Zeeland. They moved to Holland and became members of Central Avenue Christian Reformed Church where they are still members.
Bertha is survived by her husband of 77 years, Floyd “Flip” Maat, children, Sandy and Dave Habers of Holland, Kathy and Jerry Roth of Cheboygan, MI, Tom (deceased 2013), and Chuck and Michelle Maat of Lakeland, Fl; 13 grandchildren, 35 great grandchildren, 5 great great grandchildren; brother Melvin (Mike) and Judee Vanden Heuvel of Battle Creek; in-laws, June Vanden Heuvel and Mick Zuverink of Zeeland; many nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the compassionate and attentive staff of Addington Place Lakeside Vista and Gentiva Hospice.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, November 9, 2023 at Central Avenue Christian Reformed church, 259 Central Ave. Holland with Rev. Kevin Kornelis officiating. Burial will be in Restlawn Memorial Gardens. There will be a time of visiting and fellowship following the service. Memorial contributions may be given to Gentiva Hospice, Central Avenue CRC, or one’s choice.
