HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Oct. 12, 2023) – A program aimed at attracting and retaining teachers in Holland Public Schools has made its first mark in the new Academic Year.
Last week, Holland Middle School social studies instructor Kyle Liechti received a $25,700 Teachers Live Here grant towards the down payment of a home, and an additional $2,500 in closing cost assistance because the residence is within district boundaries. He is in his first year as a full-time teacher after being a long-term sub at Holland High last winter.
Seven persons received such grants in Academic 2023, according to Superintendent Nick Cassidy.
Because the program began in January, not all of the initial grants were distributed this past school year.
The program is not self-sufficient just yet, admits Cassidy.
A dozen more Teachers Live Here grants are slated to be handed out before the end of June.
