Three Hope College student-athletes have been selected as Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Athletes of the Week: Colten Baker in men’s soccer, Miyako Coffey in women’s tennis, and Clara Feenstra in women’s soccer.
Baker (Byron Center, Michigan / Byron Center HS) is the MIAA Men’s Soccer Defensive Athlete of the Week for the first time. The senior defender and business major helped the Flying Dutchmen defeat Eureka College (Ill.) and Wabash College by a combined 10-1 margin last week. The only score allowed was an own goal. Baker played on the backline for 172 of a possible 180 minutes.
Coffey (Cedar Rapids, Iowa / Xavier) is the MIAA Women’s Tennis Athlete of the Week for the first time. The junior political science major made the finals of the Green Draw at last weekend’s Intercollegiate Tennis Association Central Region Tournament in St. Louis. Coffey finished singles play with a 3-1 record.
Feenstra (Hudsonville, Michigan / Hudsonville) is the MIAA Women’s Soccer Athlete of the Week for the first time. The freshman is honored after collecting 20 saves over two matches last week that resulted in 1-1 ties. On Saturday, Feenstra posted a season-high 18 saves against visiting University of Chicago. On Wednesday, Feenstra turned away two shots at Wheaton College (Ill.).
