GRAND RAPIDS, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Aug. 3, 2023) – A 48-year-old Wayland woman faces federal identity theft charges for allegedly posing as a state licensed nurse in order to work at an area hospice facility.
The office of the US Attorney for Western District of Michigan only identified the entity victimized as C.H.G. when it announced the arrest of Leticia Gallarzo on Wednesday. Documents filed at the federal courthouse in Grand Rapids claim that she used the licensing number and a name of a person licensed as a nurse in applying for that job this spring, and her documentation of education was fraudulent. Gallarzo’s fingerprints taken during a background check apparently gave her away, for it matched prints taken while she was convicted of practicing nursing without a license in Texas in 2015.
Gallarzo, who had earned more than a thousand dollars in this latest incident before the matter came to light, is charged with identity theft related to the transfer of the means of identification of another person. If convicted, she faces a maximum of 15 years in prison. US Attorney Mark Totten’s office didn’t disclose any current bond conditions or any future court dates.
