LANSING, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, June 23, 2023) – Midwest Communications’ “Fearless Leader” will be soon a Hall of Famer.
The Michigan Association of Broadcasters announced on Thursday that Peter Tanz, who assumed the presidency of the 81-station chain upon the death last December of founder Duke Wright, will be inducted into the Michigan Broadcast Hall of Fame during the MAB’s Annual Business Meeting, Summer Leadership Conference, and Awards Banquet in Detroit on August 9th. The Wisconsin-born Tanz has been with Midwest for nearly four decades, with his Michigan connection beginning in 1995 when the company acquired stations in Coldwater, with subsequent purchases of WHTC and WYVN in Holland, along with outlets in Battle Creek, Kalamazoo and Lansing. He has been on the Board of Directors and the Foundation Board for the MAB, chairing the leadership panel in 2017-18.
Tanz will join Steve Asplund of Marquette’s WLUC-TV and Henry Erb of Grand Rapids’ WOOD-TV in the August induction ceremonies. The Michigan Broadcast Hall of Fame also includes the late Juke Van Oss, who served WHTC for nearly 65 years and was inducted in 2009, seven years before his passing in 2016.
