OLIVE TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Mar. 12, 2023) – It took several hours for motorists to be able to travel unimpeded from Grand Haven to Holland overnight on Saturday due to a Friday evening crash involving a tractor-trailer.
According to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Sergeant Jon Smoes, a 62-year-old Moreno, California woman was driving the semi southbound on US-31 shortly after 9 PM when she lost control of the rig near Port Sheldon Street. It veered to the right, went into the ditch, and landed on its side.
While the driver was receiving treatment for minor injuries, it took towing crews most of the night to right the truck and get it out of the scene. This caused intermittent closures of the highway, and it wasn’t until 7 AM on Saturday that Ottawa County Central Dispatch to say that the roadway was all clear again.
Smoes didn’t go into what caused the crash, as it remains under investigation.
