ZEELAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Mar. 2, 2023) – Millions of Americans are about to hit the food banks because of a cut in SNAP benefits.
Over 40-million Americans participate in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, which helps struggling families buy groceries. The benefits were increased during the COVID pandemic, but the extra benefits came to an end nationwide yesterday. Families that rely on SNAP benefits could see their payments cut by 95 dollars per month.
Those who operate food banks such as Jordan Palladino of His Harvest Stand ministries in Zeeland have been preparing for this development.
Eighteen states had already ended their emergency allotments prior to yesterday, with some citing the strengthening economy as the reason.
