ZEELAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Mar. 1, 2023) – While the 2023 road construction season begins in earnest this month, a look ahead to a traffic headache along the Lakeshore in 2024 is slated for Wednesday night.
State Department of Transportation officials will be joining members of the Macatawa Area Coordinating Council in a joint public meeting at the Howard Miller Community Center (14 S. Church St.) in Zeeland from 4:30 to 6:30 PM. They will be discussing a pedestrian crossing study in conjunction with a planned five-mile renovation of Business 196, from I-196 to US-31, scheduled for next year.
The work will involve not only laying down new pavement on that divided highway, but will address non-motorized needs, as that stretch virtually splits the southern part of Zeeland from the rest of that community. The meeting will also brief residents and other stakeholders of the timetable for construction and how traffic will be handled during the renovation.
MDOT is also accepting public input into the project beyond this meeting. Contact Monica Monsma of MDOT’s Environmental Services Section (425 W. Ottawa St., PO Box 20050, Lansing, MI 48909)
