HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Feb. 24, 2023) – A slogan familiar with radio listeners in and around Holland for more than six decades will get even more notice this spring.
During Thursday night’s First Bloem festivities at Warehouse 6, Tulip Time Festival officials announced that “Talk of the Town,” a paint and paper collage by Kristin Doversberger, was selected for the official poster of the 94th annual festival. An Indiana University graduate, she and her family recently moved into the Holland area, and this was her first entry into this competition.
“Tulip Time has energy and expression,” Doversberger said in a statement from the festival office. “It’s vibrant, diverse and expressive. This is the basis for my submissions – colorful, multiple media, evoking different emotions. It’s the collective experience that’s impactful.”
Her work was among 20 finalists culled late last year by juror Margaret Vega from nearly 100 entries into this competition, and will now adorn posters and other merchandise to be made available through the festival office (42 W. 8th St.) and online.
“This piece is extraordinary and represents so many elements of Tulip Time, with exquisite detail in the tulips and houses,” added festival Executive Director Gwen Auwerda. “We are thrilled with this artwork and merchandise.”
The other 19 finalists will be put into a “viewers choice” competition among attendees to the festival, with a winner announced on May 13th. the day before the nine-day event that begins on May 6th concludes.
“Talk of the Town” is also the name of the morning talk show that began in 1959 and is currently heard weekdays from 9-11:30 AM on 99 7/1450 WHTC.
