HOLLAND TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Feb. 3, 2023) – A 16-year-old Grand Rapids boy is in custody at the Ottawa County Youth Home after what is being called a “suspicious incident” on Holland’s North Side during the predawn hours of Friday.
According to Sheriff’s Sergeant James Douglas, a call came to Central Dispatch around 5:25 AM of a vehicle circulating the neighborhood in a subdivision near 104th Avenue and Perry Street. This light-colored Jeep Cherokee didn’t have its lights on, and a person was seen exiting the rear of the vehicle and checking on doors of parked vehicles in several driveways.
When deputies arrived, the suspect vehicle and a blue minivan sped off, and after a brief chase, the prowl car broke off the pursuit in the area of Byron Road and 48th Avenue east of Zeeland. A short time later, the blue minivan, which was reported stolen from that North Side neighborhood, was spotted stuck in a snowbank in the area of Byron Road and 16th Avenue near Jamestown, and that was where the teen was taken into custody on various charges. The suspect Jeep Cherokee was still at large as dawn broke on Friday.
The matter remains under investigation, and anyone with any information is asked to contact the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Department or Ottawa County Silent Observer (877-887-4536).
