WEST OLIVE, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Oct. 27, 2022) – Ten weeks after a fatal crash involving a Jeep and a gravel truck east of Hudsonville, a 17-year-old Wyoming man will face criminal charges in the matter.
On Thursday, Ottawa County Sheriff’s deputies executed an arrest warrant against the unnamed motorist on a count of Reckless Driving Causing Death, two counts of Reckless Driving Causing Serious Impairment, and Operating a Vehicle Without a License. The department is not disclosing the suspect’s name due to his age, and he was initially lodged in the county’s Juvenile Detention facility.
Around 12:30 PM on August 17th, deputies and other first responders were dispatched to the intersection of 22nd Avenue and Jackson Street. That was where the westbound Jeep apparently drove through a stop sign and into the path of a southbound gravel truck, which couldn’t avoid a collision.
One of the passengers in the Jeep died at the scene, while the Jeep driver and three other passengers in his vehicle were hospitalized. The truck driver, a 62-year-old Byron Center man, was not hurt.
