HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Aug. 27, 2022) – An old line of “you can’t get there from here” could be appropriate for describing how motorists may be struggling to navigate the roads in and around the Holland area over the next week.
On the heels of ongoing long-term construction projects along I-196 between Hudsonville and Zeeland, M-40 over I-196, US-31 in and out of Holland’s south side, and River Avenue at Lakewood Boulevard on Holland’s North Side comes word from CSX Railroad of the closing of US-31 in Holland. Crews from the Florida-based transportation entity will, starting this Monday morning, block off the divided highway in both directions between East 24th and East 32nd streets. This will be in order to remove and rebuilding the railroad crossing of the Hamilton Spur that has deteriorated over time.
According to city of Holland officials, CSX has told them that “work is expected to be complete…by Sept. 2nd, 2022, but these dates are weather dependent and subject to change.”
No detour routes are recommended by the city, but Waverly Road and Washington Avenue are expected to have heavier than normal traffic volume during the length of this construction project.
