HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, May 20, 2022) – A fresh leaf has been added to the City of Holland’s large wreath of laurels.
The Michigan Green Communities Program announced on Thursday that the Tulip City has earned Gold Certification for its leadership in areas such as energy efficiency, climate adaptation and resilience, recycling, and environmental justice.
Holland was one of 22 participating municipalities to collect this top honor in this challenge competition, thanks in part to its Community Energy Plan, recycling efforts, the rollout of EcoCarts, an ongoing Non-Motorized Transportation Plan, continuing recognition in the Tree City USA effort in developing an urban tree canopy, adding a Sustainability Manager position to city staff, partnering with the Outdoor Discovery Center, and having other community outreach and education initiatives.
Grand Haven earned Silver Certification in this program, while Grandville received a Bronze Certification.
