CHESTER TWP, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Mar. 25, 2022) – It looks as if authorities have gotten to the bottom of an apparently set fire in northeast Ottawa County last September.
On Friday, Sheriff’s detectives arrested two now-17-year-olds and a 16-year-old on charges stemming from vandalizing a restroom and torching a maintenance building on the grounds of Grose Park off of 24th Avenue in the overnight hours of September 14th. The building was burned down, along with equipment and vehicles inside, with a total loss estimated at over $200,000. Nobody was hurt in the incident, and according to Sheriff’s Detective Captain Jake Sparks, information surfaced recently that led to the apprehension of the suspects.
No names of the three arrested were disclosed, but the two 17-year-olds were arraigned before Hudsonville District Court Judge Judy Mulder on counts of third-degree arson and malicious destruction of property between one thousand and 20 thousand dollars. Bond was set for one at $75,000 and the other at $50,000, and both remain in the Ottawa County Jail. The case involving the 16-year-old has been referred to the juvenile court, and the teen was turned over to the custody of his parents.
Sparks added that the case remains open, and anone with any further information can contact the Sheriff’s Department or Ottawa County Silent Observer.
