Michael Mann Named MIAA Men’s Lacrosse Offensive Athlete of the Week
Hope College’s Michael Mann has been named the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Men’s Lacrosse Offensive Athlete of the Week.
This is the second time the sophomore attacker from Plymouth, Michigan (Detroit Jesuit) has received the honor in his career and the first time this season.
Mann totaled 12 points during two Flying Dutchmen victories last week at home.
During a 19-8 victory against Aquinas College on Wednesday, Mann recorded a season-high five goals to go along with five assists.
During a 10-8 victory against Siena Heights University on March 14, the public accounting major registered two goals and two assists.
BASEBALL
Baseball Sweeps MIAA Player of the Week Honors
Hope College pitcher Sean Hoey and center fielder Evan Maday are the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Baseball Athletes of the Week.
Hoey is the MIAA Baseball Pitcher of the Week for the second time this season and in his career.
Maday is the MIAA Baseball Position Athlete of the Week for the first time in his career.
Hoey (Holland, Michigan / West Ottawa HS) hurled two victories for the Flying Dutchmen last week.
The integrated science group secondary education major fired three scoreless innings during a 22-0 victory against Grace Christian University on Tuesday. He started a no-hitter for Hope that included four relievers. Hoey struck out four.
On Friday, the senior righthander threw five scoreless innings during a 13-5 victory against 13th-ranked Johns Hopkins University (Md.). Hoey scattered four hits and two walks over five innings. He struck out two.
Maday (Grand Rapids, Michigan (East Kentwood) batted .619 with nine RBIs to help the Flying Dutchmen win four of five games.
The civil engineering major collected three triples and two doubles while also scoring six runs. He went 5-for-6 against Johns Hopkins, which played in the NCAA Division III World Series last season.
SOFTBALL
Pitcher Hurls No-Hitter
Chloe Haskins fired the 11th no-hitter in Hope College softball history and the first in five seasons on Monday in Clermont, Florida.
The senior from Brighton, Michigan (Brighton HS) struck out eight during an 8-0, five-inning victory against Wellesley College (Mass.).
Hope (4-4 overall) rebounded after losing, 4-3, to Wooster College (Ohio) in Monday’s first game.
