OLIVE TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Mar. 21, 2022) – The search for a new Ottawa County Administrator could be entering the home stretch.
On Thursday, March 24th, County Commissioners will be conducting what officials are calling a “finalist” interview with John Shay to determine if the interim will be taken off of his title. If so, he would fully replace Al Vanderberg, who stepped down last June after 18 years to return to Kent County as it’s top operational leader. Shay had been Vanderberg’s deputy for three years before taking over the reins on an interim basis upon his departure.
Although there were 36 total applicants for County Administrator, four were interviewed by a selection committee that included the current and former board chairmen – Matt Fenske and Roger Bergman, respectively. Shay emerged as the recommended choice by this committee.
The public interview will be held in the board room at the Fillmore Street Complex, beginning at 5 PM, following the scheduled biweekly board meeting. Residents and other stakeholders are invited to submit potential questions beforehand through the county’s website, which will also have a link to a live online stream of the interview.
