WATSON TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Mar. 13, 2022) – A man is in the Allegan County Jail, awaiting arraignment on various charges, stemming from several attempts to flee from the law in the Martin area on Saturday.
According to the Allegan County Sheriff’s Department, a deputy attempted to pull over a vehicle on a traffic violation along 116th Avenue (M-222) around 10:15 AM. The vehicle refused to stop and a short pursuit ensued until the suspect made a U-turn in a parking lot and drove at the prowl car, disabling it in the process. The suspect was still able to drive off.
A short time later, a Michigan State Police trooper from the Wayland post spotted the suspect’s vehicle on US-131, but after a short chase, the suspect crashed the vehicle into the median just north of the Martin exit. The man then fled on foot into southbound traffic and attempted to carjack a stopped southbound vehicle. He was able to get into the driver seat, but a number of officers from various jurisdictions were at the scene and were able to apprehend the suspect before he could drive off. There were no reported injuries throughout this pursuit.
The suspect will not only face arraignment in Allegan District Court on charges stemming from this pursuit, but he also faces some outstanding warrants.
The Allegan County Sheriff’s Department was assisted by the Michgian State Police, the Allegan Police Department, the Otsego Police Department, and the Gun Lake Tribal Police in this matter.
