GRAND HAVEN TWP, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Mar. 3, 2022) – A 62-year-old Grand Haven man apparently escaped injury after his vehicle collided into a big box retail store south of the county seat near the noon hour on Thursday.
According to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Lieutenant Nicholas Knott, deputies and first responders were dispatched to the Meijer store just before 12 PM. “The investigation at the scene showed that the driver was backing out of a parking spot near the main entrance of the building when he accidently accelerated into the building,” Knott said in a department statement. “The vehicle entered the store, causing some structural damage, and struck on customer in the store.”
That customer suffered bumps and bruises and refused any treatment at the scene, according to Knott, while the unnamed driver was not hurt. No damage estimate to the structure was initially made as the incident remains under investigation.
