UNDATED (WHTC-AM/FM, Feb. 28, 2022) – The state high school girls’ basketball tournament begins tonight with these contests involving teams from the Lakeshore: Zeeland East at Holland, Jenison at West Ottawa, Zeeland West at Grandville, Allegan at Hamilton, and in a doubleheader at Fennville, the Blackhawks entertain Covenant Christian and Black River takes on Potter’s House Christian.

The NCAA will announce this afternoon who, when and where in its Division III basketball tournaments as Hope College clinched automatic berths with Saturday evening wins in the MIAA tournaments. The Flying Dutchmen defeated visiting Calvin at DeVos Fieldhouse, 76-68, while the Flying Dutch topped Trine in Angola, 54-50.
In state major-college basketball yesterday, Michigan lost to Illinois, 93-85.

David Perron scored twice and Jordan Binnington made 30 saves as the visiting St. Louis Blues blanked the Blackhawks yesterday, 4-0. Chicago is home to the Edmonton Oilers at the United Center on Thursday evening.

Saddiq Bey had 28 points, but the Pistons needed a 20-foot jumper by Kelly Olynyk at the buzzer to edge the Hornets in overtime at Charlotte last night, 127-126. Detroit takes on the Wizards in Washington tomorrow evening.
