The No. 4-ranked Hope College volleyball team celebrated the careers and contributions of nine seniors on Wednesday evening with a decisive 3-0 shutout over Adrian College.
The Flying Dutch won by set scores of 25-18, 25-7, 25-23 to improve to 18-2 overall this fall, including an unblemished 6-0 record in MIAA action. Senior outside hitter Molly Ligon, pictured, led offensively with 10 kills. Hope’s next three games are Friday-Saturday, Oct. 22-23, at the Midwest Invitational hosted by Calvin University.
WOMEN’S GOLF
Junior Grace VanDellen and senior Megan Jenkinson led a group of four Hope College women’s golfers to claim All-MIAA honors. VanDellen headlined the six-member All-MIAA First Team as the league’s Most Valuable Golfer. Jenkinson also made the first team. Senior Megan Radaz and sophomore Emlin Munch both made the All-MIAA Second Team. They helped the Flying Dutch claim their 10th MIAA championship this fall.
Hope College’s Megan Jenkinson was selected as the MIAA Women’s Golfer of the Week. The senior biomedical and biomechanical engineering major is receiving the honor for the first time. Jenkinson helped the Flying Dutch win their 10th MIAA championship last weekend by firing rounds of 2-over-par 74 and 82 during the MIAA Fall Finish at Bedford Valley Country Club in Battle Creek. Saturday’s 74 was a career-best for Jenkinson.
WOMEN’S CROSS COUNTRY
The Hope College women’s cross country team is ranked 16th nationally and second in the Great Lakes Region in the USTFCCCA polls. Calvin University is No. 1 regionally, while Trine University is sixth and Kalamazoo College is 10th. Hope’s next meets are Saturday, Oct. 16, at 11:15 a.m. CT at the Augustana College (Ill.) Invitational and 1 p.m. ET at the Muskegon Community College Invitational at Oak Ridge Golf Course in Norton Shores.
MEN’S CROSS COUNTRY
The Hope College men’s cross country team is ranked seventh in this week’s USTFCCCA Great Lakes Region poll. Freshman Jimmy Alford and the Flying Dutchmen are one of two regionally-ranked MIAA teams, along with Calvin University, which was fourth. Hope’s next meets are Saturday, Oct. 16, at 11:15 a.m. CT at the Augustana College (Ill.) Invitational and 1 p.m. ET at the Muskegon Community College Invitational at Oak Ridge Golf Course in Norton Shores.
MEN’S GOLF
Junior Jack Crawford, pictured, fired a 2-under-par 70 at The Medalist Golf Club in Marshall to lead the Hope College men’s golf team to a second-place finish at the MIAA Jamboree hosted by Olivet College with a team score of 298. The Flying Dutchmen finished four strokes behind Calvin University and trail Calvin by five heading into the 36-hole MIAA Fall Finish on Friday-Saturday, Oct. 15-16, at 1 p.m. and 10 a.m., respectively, at The PohlCat Golf Course in Mount Pleasant.
MEN’S SOCCER
Sophomore Griffin Brown recorded his first career goal with 48 seconds remaining in regulation and helped the No. 19-ranked Hope College men’s soccer team earn a 1-1 tie at Trine University on Wednesday. Junior Trevor Durfee had the assist. The Flying Dutchmen (8-2-2 overall) remain unbeaten in MIAA play but slipped out of first place with a 2-0-1 league record. Hope’s next game is Saturday, Oct. 16, at 2 p.m. vs. Olivet College at Olivet High School.
WOMEN’S SOCCER
Sarah Mikesell’s late-game heroics helped the Hope College women’s soccer team play to a 1-1 draw at Albion College in a matchup of third-place teams in the MIAA on Tuesday. The senior forward, pictured, scored with 8 minutes, 10 seconds remaining in regulation to even the score. Hope (8-3-1 overall) and Albion (7-2-1) are now tied for fourth place with 2-1-1 league records. The Flying Dutch host Adrian College for Senior Day on Saturday, Oct. 16, at 1 p.m.
