CHESTER TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – A suspected firebug or firebugs are being sought following a fire at a northeast Ottawa County park overnight on Tuesday (Sept. 14, 2021).
According to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Sergeant Christopher Dill, deputies and firefighters from Chester Township, Casnovia and Rockford were dispatched around 2:45 AM to a report of a structure fire at Grose Park off of 24th Avenue. “Preliminary investigation at the scene showed that a storage building at the park, containing several maintenance vehicles, sustained heavy fire damage before the fire was extinguished by responding fire departments,” Dill said in a department statement. “During further investigation at the park, deputies found that nearby restroom fixtures were intentionally damaged by unknown suspects. A Michigan State Police arson investigator is working with Sheriff’s Office detectives to continue this investigation.”
